On behalf of LSB Industries, Lapis Energy plans to sequester CO2 emitted from the El Dorado Chemical Company (EDCC) in El Dorado (Union County), Arkansas, in the Hosston and the Cotton Valley geologic formations to permanently store the CO2. The project will be the first of its kind in Arkansas. The goal is to capture most of the process CO2 generated during ammonia production, which will generate more than 375 thousand metric tons of low carbon ammonia per year. The project will permanently sequester more than 450 thousand metric tons of CO2 per year and reduce LSB Industries scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 25% from current levels. To put this number in perspective, this equates to more than 5% of all the industrial related carbon dioxide emission in the state of Arkansas, as per the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) 2020 data.
