The University of North Dakota Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) aims to showcase cost-effective Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology from Climeworks, alongside permitted CO2 storage facilities in North Dakota, at a scale of millions of tons. This initiative is designed to stimulate and direct the development of commercial-scale DAC and storage facilities in a socially responsible manner across the northern Great Plains. Climeworks will implement its technology at the Prairie Compass Hub, which features a fully permitted CO2 storage site as the central storage solution, with additional storage locations and CO2 transport infrastructure in progress to facilitate the hub's growth.
