Tampa Electric Company (TEC) and their partners are embarking on a front-end engineering design (FEED) study to evaluate the retrofitting of ION Clean Energy Inc.'s post-combustion carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technology at the Polk Power Station in Mulberry, Florida. The Polk Power Station comprises two separate facilities, with the focus of the FEED study being the 1,190-megawatt (MW) natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power plant unit known as PK2.
The project aims to implement technology capable of capturing a minimum of 95% of the CO2 emissions generated, which translates to nearly 3.7 million tonnes of CO2 per year.
