The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, located in Socorro, New Mexico, intends to conduct a comprehensive commercial-scale site characterization study at three proposed storage sites within the San Juan Basin in northwest New Mexico. This effort aims to facilitate the development of the Four Corners Carbon Storage Hub. Utilizing data obtained from the geologic characterization study and environmental analysis, the project will verify the suitability of each proposed site to securely store 50 million metric tons of CO2 over a 30-year period. Additionally, the project will prepare, submit, and obtain the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class VI permit.
The storage hub plans to source CO2 from at least four industrial sites and aims to store a minimum of 240 million metric tons of CO2 over a 30-year period.
